One two three four five six seven eight
One two three four five six seven eight
Count eight candles as we celebrate
One two three four five six seven eight!
We’re eating lots of latkes, we’re spinning little dreidels
We’re lighting the menorahs, we’re counting all the candles
All across America, from state to golden state
We’re celebrating Hanukkah by counting up to eight!
Counting
One two three four five six seven eight…
And the candle in the middle would be number nine
But it’s really only there to light the candles on the sides
The middle one’s the shammes, it doesn’t really count
Eight nights and eight lights is what it’s all about
Counting
One two three four five six seven eight…
An octopus has eight arms, a spider has eight legs
A major scale has eight notes, one octave to the next
And Hanukkah has eight lights to remind us all
Of the light that burned eight nights on one night’s worth of oil
Counting
One two three four five six seven eight…
